Titanic Town

Ulster drama after novel by Mary Costello.

Belfast housewife takes up the peace cause which causes her family trouble with IRA sympathizers.

The film uses original John songs May You Never (with slightly different solo guitar work), Solid Air, Back Down The River, Go Down Easy and Over The Hill. Actress Nuala O'Neil also sings cover version of May You Never.

The film had its premiere at the Locarno Film Festival on 8 August 1998. England had to wait until 6 November.
Set in Belfast in 1972, the politically naïve Bernie is trying to bring up a normal family in less than normal surroundings. Her best friend is accidentally shot dead by the IRA, and her neighbours are constantly raided by the army. In this climate of fear and confusion, she dares to stand up and condemn the killings. Criticising both factions equally, her public call for a ceasefire is interpreted by many as an attack against the IRA, and as her fledgling peace movement takes momentum, she and her family are placed in the frontline.

The soundtrack was released on Island (catalogue number CID 8081). The CD is painted black. There also are promo copies of silver CDs with a brown cardboard sleeve.
