Speaking of cool, this guy's the master, with his gurgly, jazz-flecked cooing, and finger-popping, hip ditties. And now that Sade has demonstrated the appeal of the form with her variations on the theme, John Martyn's sound may finally get the recognition (meaning radio play) he's long deserved. Some of his earlier records were a bit flimsy, but this one is solid through and through.
