The BBC have announced that John will receive the Radio 2 Lifetime Achievement Award. This will happen during the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2008 Show, on Monday 4 February 2008. John is expected to perform on the occasion. Martin Simpson will also be present as he is nominated in five categories.

Presenter Mike Harding says in the press release:

With his superb innovative guitar playing and acutely observed song-writing, John Martyn helped define British folk music in the late Sixties and Seventies and in May You Never wrote what is arguably one of the Best-loved folk songs to come from these islands. He has experienced a welcome renaissance in recent years and it's fitting that we reflect his stature as a hugely influential and talented artist.

John is in good company as last year's Award went to Danny Thompson. So now we're getting somewhere :o)
